A business pays for adverts to appear as search results on search engine results pages (SERPs) like Google AdWords, targeted select keywords/phrases so that when a user searches for those terms, they see your advert. You are only charged only if a user clicks on the ad whereas Facebook Advertising you are charged for views and not clicks. Paid placements ads are usually located at the top and bottom of the SERPs page. There is an “Ad” description to let consumers know that it’s a paid advertorial placement and not organic driven search results.

There are two components, Search Engine Optimisation SEO and Search Engine Marketing SEM.
