WordPress Backups.
Backup and backup again. The very first action I undertake is a full WordPress backup using a plugin in conjunction to your Webhosting automated backup. Backups are stored remotely away from the hosting and website server on the cloud just in case of a major issue. I have used various hosting companies’ automated backup and restore functions and they work very well in restoring your website. I run bi-monthly backups to include the database, themes, plugins and uploads. I scan the remote backups for viruses and/or malware. Some Cpanel hosting does not offer clamshell virus scanning.
WordPress Security
Hackers can hack anything; therefore, we have to create systems and protocols that discourage the bots, shows no weaknesses and leaks very little information for a human to act on. I have security experience in close Personal Protection and an interest in all things security especially cyber security. I keep up to date on worldwide security trends and follow Wordfence and IThemes Security WordPress bulletin updates actively. The biggest threats have been in shared hosting environments which many small businesses will use, poor login credentials and followed by poorly coded plugins. Research your Webhosting company for shared servers, firewalls, scanning and customer support. Once the backup is completed, I conduct a review of user login credentials and passwords. I will remove plugins that are not actively updated and those plugins developers who are highlighted in the security bulletins for poorly coded work.

If Plugins and/or Themes are no longer compatible with the latest version of WordPress or are abandoned, or are removed from the WordPress repository, it is an extra cost to install and reconfigure the new plugins and/or theme.
cPanel Management. Access to your hosting account is required. Good hosting companies allow a “contactor” access to the c-panel, file manager and not the accounts section of the account.
