Phishing Emails on the rise in South Africa

My clients have been reporting a surge of phishing emails from Telcos and especially Standard Bank requesting clients it click on the links. As you know, these are usually Ransomware attacks using spoofed emails for example Standard Bank Standard Bank statement@standardbank.co.za or Telstra no-reply@telstra.com. These emails look legitimate as they are spoofed email addresses with the correct headers and logos.

1. Email is one of the main infection methods. Be wary of unexpected emails, especially if they contain links and/or attachments.

I am checking to see if your business have processes in place to educate staff of these threats and how they appear? South Africa is now a bigger target for cybercrime yet its councils in the US that have had the largest impact with whole towns IT systems shut down.
